Troubleshooting Phone Problems

No Dial Tone

If your phone doesn't have a dial tone, use this checklist to help solve the problem

  1. Check the handset Ensure that the handset wire is securely plugged into the base unit.
  2. Check the base unit Check the wire at the rear. A bad connection can be improved by removing and reinstalling the plug.
  3. Check the base unit connection Ensure that the base unit is plugged into a voice or phone jack. It will not function if it is plugged into a data jack.

Can't Hear Callers

If you can't hear callers when you pick up your phone, use this checklist to help solve the problem.

  1. Check the volume control If the volume is turned down too low, it will interfere with incoming audio.
  2. Try using the speakerphone If you can hear the caller when you use your speakerphone, your handset may need repair.
  3. Reconnect the phone line Unplug the phone line from the wall jack, then plug it in again. This can clear up a problem with a bad connection.

Caller Can't Hear Me

When you answer your phone and the caller can't hear you, use this checklist to help solve the problem

  1. Check the mute button If the mute feature is activated during a call, the caller won't be able to hear you.
  2. Check the handset cord If the handset cord is not securely plugged in at both ends, you won't be able to hear callers.
  3. Check the wall jack The phone line must be plugged into a voice or phone jack. You won't be able to hear callers if your phone is plugged into a data jack.

Phone Doesn't Ring

If your phone doesn't ring, use this checklist to help solve the problem.

  1. Check your ring options The setting for a normal ring is 1. For directions on how to set your phone for a normal ring, please locate the photo of your phone model then link to the dialing instructions for that model.
  2. Confirm the volume control switch setting The volume control switch should be on its highest setting. This switch is usually located on the side of the phone.
  3. Look at the program button The button should not be lit.
  4. Test for call forwarding If you have an analog phone, pick up the handset and press # 2 #. If you have a digital phone, leave the handset in the carrier and press # 2 #. You will hear three short beeps. This tells you that your calls were being forwarded and you have canceled the feature.
