Resetting your Mac password

Each time you reset your HS password you have to go through a series of steps so that the Mac can sync up with the new password. This has to be done each time you reset your HS password.

Follow these steps:

  1. Assure you are using a UCIHealth WiFi or wired network
  2. Restart your Mac
  3. Click on your account on the FileVault screen
    Type in your previous password
    update_mac_password-type_password
  4. Wait
  5. Type in your HS login account on the login screen
    Type in your new password
    update_mac_password-type_new_password
  6. Click to update Keychain password
    update_mac_password-update_keychain_password
  7. Wait for Mac to login
  8. Restart
  9. Click on your account on the FileVault screen
    Type in your new password
    update_mac_password-type_password

Troubleshooting:

  • Off the network the Mac will continue to rely on your previous password
  • If on 2nd restart (Step 8) you find yourself having to use your previous password, go to Step 5 and continue with the steps once more. Note that you will not be prompted to update your Keychain password (Step 6) on the second attempt
